Director Randall Einhorn has tapped his “Wilfred” star Elijah Wood to topline Dignity Film Finance’s indie comedy “The Late Bloomer,” based on Ken Baker’s 2001 memoir “Man Made: A Memoir of My Body.”
Pic is based on the true story of a nearly 30-year-old man whose body goes through many changes over the course of several overwhelming weeks after discovering he hadn’t totally undergone puberty due to a medical condition.
Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove rewrote Joe Nussbaum’s original draft of the script.
Jesse Israel of Ineffable Pictures, Heidi Jo Markel of Eclectic Pictures and Brent Emery of Coup d’Etat Films will produce, while DFF prexy Maggie Monteith will exec produce and finance the film. Ineffable Pictures founder Raphael Kryszek will also exec produce the pic, which is expected to start production in January.
“The combination of Einhorn and Wood is exceptional, as we’ve seen with the success of ‘Wilfred.’ I know that they will honor Baker’s true story in a very entertaining way,” Monteith said.
“‘The Late Bloomer’ is the type of wonderful heartfelt comedy that I like to engage in. Puberty can be difficult at best and has the potential to be extremely comedic in normal circumstances,” added Einhorn.
Wood will next be seen in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” He recently starred in a remake of “Maniac,” which premiered at Cannes and will be released early next year by IFC Midnight. Wood, who is currently filming the psychological thriller “Grand Piano” with John Cusack, can currently be seen in the second season of FX’s “Wilfred” and heard as the lead voice on Disney XD’s animated series “Tron: Uprising.” He’s repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and attorney Neil Meyer.
Elijah has been officially confirmed for The Hobbit. Empire says: Warner Bros. has finally officially confirmed the casting of Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Andy Serkis (Gollum), even if we’ve all known they’d be part of the film for ages.
LONDON (Hollywood Reporter) – Elijah Wood is joining the cast of “Treasure Island,” Britain’s Sky 1′s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s buccaneering pirate classic that will broadcast on Sky at Christmas.
Wood – best known to British audiences as Frodo from “Lord of The Rings” will play Ben Gunn – is joining a cast that includes Eddie Izzard, Philip Glenister and Rupert Penry-Jones who are already filming in Ireland and Puerto Rico.
Glenister plays Captain Smollet, Penry-Jones takes on the role of Squire Trelawney and Daniel Mays is Dr Livesey – who are all on board The Hispaniola alongside Gunn. Izzard plays Long John Silver.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Wood will reprise his Frodo role in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” prequel, “The Hobbit.”
Elijah Wood is heading to the shire once again to reprise his role as Frodo in The Hobbit. According to a report on OneRing.net, Wood is confirmed as part of The Hobbit cast, although his role will be small and fit organically into the story.
Some LOTR fans might cry foul, but from reading OneRing’s report it seems Wood’s appearance in The Hobbit will indeed make sense in the overall scheme of Hobbit things. While I’m not about to spoil anything for Hobbit fans, if you do want to know how Frodo’s character fits into the story OneRing spells it all out.
The fansite also reports there’s still no confirmation on Orlando Bloom returning as Legolas, first reported back in early December as a possibility. Confirmed cast members include Martin Freeman as Bilbo, James Nesbitt as Bofur, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, and Richard Armitage as Thorin. Filming’s set to get underway in New Zealand next month, with Warner Bros aiming for a December 2012 release of the first of the two Hobbit movies.
